Small and Simple Things

I don't know about you, but I see myself in this image of a tiny black bear cub cautiously stepping out from behind tall grasses.

Confidence is a tough thing for me. Now, not to say that I have zero confidence in anything. I would think that most of us lack confidence the first time that we do something. Repetition certainly produces confidence.

In our walk with God there are many times he calls us to do something that we're not naturally confident to do. We think of our weaknesses. We worry that we'll fail. We worry that we'll let God down. We worry that there is someone else better suited to fulfill the task.

What happens after all of the concerns are expressed? We begin to ask God for the strength and direction to complete the task at hand. Our faith in Him increases. Our trust increases.

God has a history of asking humble servants to do things that are out of their comfort zone.

"...by small and simple things are great things brought to pass; and small means in many instances doth confound the wise." -Alma 37:6

You see, when "small things" or inexperienced and humble people are called to do things beyond what they are naturally capable of and the Lord provides the way for it to be accomplished, there is no denying God's power.

Submitting to His prompting both builds our faith and stands as a witness to others that He is able to bring about His great purpose through "small things".

If you feel like this tiny and timid black bear cub today you're in a great position to be used by God. Be open to His calling and have faith that he will provide the increase.
